RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT

New and emerging science and technologies

Our research activities focus on the societal ramifications of new and emerging science and technologies. We are mainly active in the fields of synthetic biology, xenobiology, neurotechnology, and converging technologies where we are interested in the science-society interface, biosafety, responsible research and innovation, citizen science, and narratives of socio-technological futures. Our methods span a wide range of fields from social science (elucidating what people think about plants that were reprogrammed to produce vaccines), to bioinformatics (establishing a metric space for alternative genetic codes), to speculative design (stimulating citizens’ imagination about future possibilities with science-based art).

Track record of ongoing and completed collaborations in international, European and national research projects.
