On July 9th, the Biofaction team and the Mi-Hy project traveled to Prague to join FAB25.cz—the world’s largest gathering of makers, innovators, and digital fabrication enthusiasts. Immersed in an event that hosted over 1,000 visitors and 700 hours of programming, the team contributed a four-hour workshop led by Günter Seyfried, Uliana Reutina, and Dr. Mukesh Sharma, bridging the gap between biological science and the DIY spirit.
The workshop welcomed 22 eager participants who spent the afternoon exploring the potential of sustainable energy through the lens of microbial fuel cells (MFCs). Together, they successfully assembled six MFCs, biological batteries that harness the power of microorganisms. One of the cells even produced enough output to power a working LED right on the spot.
It was rewarding to step outside our usual circles and exchange ideas with the grassroots maker community. This dialogue proved how open science knowledge can empower anyone to take sustainable innovation into their own hands.
