Biofaction joined this year’s Open Hardware Summit with a microbial fuel cell building tutorial, developed and presented in the framework of the Mi-Hy project. Taking place in Technische Universität Berlin on the weekend of May 23-24th, the summit had a busy schedule of 17 talks on Saturday and 19 workshops (and a rave!) on Sunday, along with exhibits, performances and social events.
Our workshop Learn to harness microbial fuel cell technology combined with hydroponics was held on Sunday 24th of May. Biofaction team has been joined by 30 participants, each making their own microbial fuel cell: we mixed and autoclaved nutrition for the bacteria, folded and pressed the cathodes, filled in the wastewater and measured power output while talking about possible applications for sustainable low-power energy sources.
The engagement, ideas and feedback were incredible and highly motivating – many thanks to everyone who joined for their interest. Big appreciation to the organisers for making such wonderful event happen. Two days were buzzing with amazing projects and talks, yet keeping very friendly atmosphere comfortable for deeper exchange.
